Big Daddy's Brother Jim's
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Big Daddy's was a popular chain of small bars and package stores that offered 50 cent drinks as their attraction. This project was to be a prototype idea in order to expand into larger and more dramatic entertainment facilities.
The concept was four split level floors all connected by a major two way stair feature, splitting the space in two and serving all levels. The building was entered on the ground level thru a hidden garden that led you under the building to the entrance door. The three bar levels were all connected visually thru the stairs.
The structure was all heavy timber from the ground up. Double 8"x12" beams rested on 12"x12" columns and 3" double tongue and groove decking spanned all beams and at exterior walls spanned between columns. Cedar shakes clad all exterior walls and the chimney and ground level structures were Coral rock.
A second, larger Big Daddy's Brother Jim's was later designed for an ocean front site in Daytona Beach, but was never built.
